The Herberton Railway Museum is housed in part of the Herberton Railway Station, located at the end of John St, Herberton and open from 9am to 3pm, Saturday, Sunday & public holidays.
It is closed on Xmas Day Boxing Day & Good Friday.
Entry is  by gold coin donation.

The building was constructed in 1937 and is the first of its kind to be built by Queensland Rail, being all precast concrete construction prepared in the Brisbane workshops & delivered to Herberton on flat top wagons. All of the timber doors & windows were made at the Mareeba workshops and also transported to Herberton by rail for erection. These windows are held together by timber wedges & dowels with very few nails used in all of the timber construction.

The museum houses a large amount of photographic evidence of construction of the rail line & many stories of how it had been built. Also on display are tools the same as those used over 100 years ago during construction, specialist tools used in later years, oil lanterns, the original parcel scales & much more to keep you interested.

The  slideshow  shows some of the displays you can expect to see on your visit to our museum.
